Two Tibetan teenagers, aged 17 and 18, committed self-immolation in China’s Sichuan province on Tuesday. They died from their wounds at 9:30 p.m. Their protest brings the total of known self-immolations in Tibet to 104 since 2009. Eighty-six of the protestors are known to have died from the wounds they sustained. The Minister of Information and International Relations for the exiled Tibetan government, Dicki Chhoyang, read a message left by a young monk who self immolated last year to a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council on Tuesday, “the pain of not enjoying basic human rights is far greater than the pain of self immolation, ” were his haunting words.
