I admire Eve Ensler tremendously. She has lighted a fire that will not be put out.
She depends on no donors and disdains the usual NGO speak when it comes to galvanising women into action. As a male activist on gender and child rights she has caught my imagination in a way that 90% of the present women leaders in the efforts to eradicate GBV against women and children have not.
And that is the rub really … she is being let down by the main constituency she has targeted – leaders of women’s organisations. I attended OBR in Johannesburg – Eve got me out of my armchair for that. But she didn’t get the majority of women leaders to even facilitate twenty women from their organisations to attend never mind to turn up themselves.
