Often overlooked in terms of the Johannesburg art scene Rosebank is fast becoming Johannesburg’s new art district, and with major galleries all situated within walking distance of each other what more could you ask for?
Starting at the Everard Read Gallery and ending at the Goodman Gallery the walk will probably take you just over an hour depending on how long you stay in each gallery.
Southern Africa´s most famous commercial art gallery was established in the young mining town of Johannesburg in 1912. In 1980 the gallery moved from downtown Joburg to Rosebank.
The gallery is built around a house dating back to the 1920’s and is filled with courtyards and little hidey holes. The exhibitions are always changing and range between a host of mediums. The gallery has benches and couches in just about every exhibition allowing you to sit back and take the artworks in.
